I love gleaning through a new study Bible … picking out new bits of information, discovering contextual maps, illustrations, and expanded notes on specific passages. So when I received this newly revised edition of the trusted NIV Study Bible I was eager to dig in.

For 35 years the NIV Study Bible has helped readers understand God’s Word. In this fully revised edition, Bible publisher Zondervan offers their exclusive NIV Comfort Print® typeface along with many updates to make this another treasured study Bible. Study notes have been evaluated to include new cultural, historical and thematic insights. Over one hundred new articles have been included, in addition to maps, charts and illustrations.

Features of NIV Study Bible (from the FaithGateway Store):

  • Complete text of the accurate, readable, and clear New International Version (NIV)
  • Over 21,000 bottom-of-the-page study notes, with icons to make important information easy to spot
  • Over 125 topical articles, 16 pages of full-color maps, the Comprehensive NIV Concordance with nearly 4800 word entries, and a subject note index enable even deeper study
  • Sixty-six book introductions and outlines along with six section introductions provide valuable background information for each book of the Bible
  • In-text maps, charts, diagrams, and illustrations visually clarify the stories in the Bible
  • Words of Jesus in red
  • Exclusive Zondervan NIV Comfort Print typeface
  • 9-point print size

The specific edition I received for review is hardcover, standard sized. It seems to be a durable, sturdy Bible. The paper is thin but common for Bibles this size, and fairly bright white in color. The font and print size is comfortable on my eyes, and includes the Words of Jesus in red. Study notes and helps are substantial without being overwhelming. Page numbers and scripture references are located at the top outside edges of the page for quickly finding a passage. The NIV concordance, located at the back, is quite extensive, containing “4,795 word entries, with nearly 36,000 Scripture entries.”

Overall, I highly recommend this Bible.
