Trusting Your Feelings

I’ve heard it said some people have head-knowledge of God without heart-knowledge.  Never allowing what’s in their head to move to their heart.

This morning I was reading a blog post from a friend of mine, Beth Moore. Don’t you just love the way technology allows us to have “friends” who wouldn’t know us from Adam if we met on the street? Anyway, my friend Beth was discussing “knowing” God is real. In her subsequent related post she sums it up as “The question conveyed on the post was about the time when you moved from believing God exists (Hebrews 11:6) to knowing (2 Timothy 1:12).”

That struck a chord with me and I began a thinkin

As women we are emotional creatures.
But we are warned, through Scripture, against unreservedly trusting our emotions, or feelings.

There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death.
Proverbs 14:12 (NKJV)

We can sometimes misinterpret this warning to the extreme of completely ignoring our feelings, even when they are Scripture-approved-feelings (i.e, rejoicing in the unconditional love from our Savior). This can often lead us to suppress any feelings and emotions, including heart-knowledge, or knowing God.

If we never allow believing to lead to feeling, we impede the result of knowing.

Beware of shutting down all emotions.
Instead, employ God’s wisdom in interpreting and acting upon these emotions, putting them to the test through Scripture.

Putting my emotions to the test of scripture as you said is the real key for me, it is not wrong or sinful to feel the way I feel (upset, fear etc) it’s what happens next – whether I choose to act out if those emotions & get into worry etc or whether I choose to run to the Father, a very timely post – thank you xx

Yes, I once heard that some people are “too emotional” about Christ. Apparently, laughter and tears were too much for them to handle. I believe that loving anyone has to involve emotion. Falling head-over-heals with my Jesus is definitely the way I prefer to fly. Sometimes, I can’t control the emotions if I want to.
