Don’t y’all just love a good book? I know I do. I usually have a few books I’m reading at one time. In addition to the best Book of all, the Bible, of course, there are always various titles on my “currently reading” list. These generally consist of one I’m reading digitally, one I’m listening to as an audiobook, and one I’m reading as a physical paper copy. I have to cover all the bases, right?
I also enjoy talking about books and would love to have a group of like-minded Christian women to do just that with.

So, I have a question for you.
How do you feel about a virtual book club (via Zoom)?
Seriously, if you are interested I would love to hear from you.

Here’s some of what’s currently on my reading list:

Bible reading: I’m currently reading in the book of Job.
For the past few years I’ve read the Bible through every year, which has greatly helped to deepen my relationship with God and increase my Bible knowledge (or Bible literacy as it is called). Reading the Bible in one year shows me the big picture, or overall story, of God’s Word. But sticking to that schedule leaves little time to spend on passages I want to study deeper. So this year, I’m intentionally taking a slower pace, aiming for a two-year reading with time to do some in-depth studies.

Books I’m currently reading:
Practicing Swordplay: Intentionally Combating the Lies of the Enemy by Haley V Craft
The title says it all. I am only about half-way through this book, but it has so much to offer in practical ways to use biblical truths to fight against the lies our enemy tries to convince us are true. In fact, I would love to get a group together to go through this as a (virtual) Bible study. Anyone interested?

Gideon’s Book by Maureen Miller
This book was recommended through one of my writer’s groups, and so far it has not disappointed (I’m a few chapters from done). It’s a fictional story that addresses some hard topics with God’s truths woven throughout.

The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament by Sandra L. Richter
This book was recommended by a trusted Christian friend, who first loaned me her book, but I soon realized I needed my own copy. This one may stay on my “currently reading” list for a while as it takes a deep dive into helping the reader understand details and timeline of the Old Testament.

Books I recently finished reading:
Call of the Camino: A Novel by Suzanne Redfearn
Though not specifically Christian fiction, this book is a fictional story of two different women who walk the five-hundred miles of the ancient Camino de Santiago in Spain, and the relationships they develop along the way. This one is also currently available on Kindle Unlimited, which is where I found it recommended.

Write Better: A Lifelong Editor on Craft, Art, and Spirituality by Andrew T. Le Peau
I picked this one up at a writer’s conference this summer and could hardly put it down. Obviously, this book is more for the writer in me, but if you have ever considered writing, whether memoir, fiction, or short stories, this is a great resource and a fun read (even if you aren’t a writer).

  1. Hi Lori!

I’m re-reading, “Dashing Through the Snow” by Mary Higgins Clark and reading for the first time, “The Christmas Basket” by Debbie Macomber.

  2. Good morning! I would enjoy participating in an online Bible study.
Thanks for your post on the books you’ve been reading!

  3. Lori, I would love to participate in the virtual book club. A couple of books I have read that lend themselves to a book club are The Way of the Heart by Henri Nouwen, Eternity is Now in Session by John Ortberg, and A Long Obedience in the Same Direction by Eugene Peterson. All good studies. I am currently reading Apostate The Men Who Destroyed the Christian West. Pretty hard reading, but good to know.

    1. Thanks for the interest and recommendations Jodie! I just read A Long Obedience in the Same Direction last year – it’s good. Haven’t read the others yet but I’ll check them out. As I gather more interest for a book club I’ll send out an email with details. Right now I’m thinking of starting in January.
